Nearly 54% of French people sleep poorly.
In Europe, people sleep an average of 7 hours and 7 minutes per night during the week. On weekends, this figure rises to 8 hours and 4 minutes. Those who struggle to sleep during the week try to catch up over the weekend. Consequently, someone who has slept only 6 hours or less during the week makes up for it by sleeping an extra 1 hour and 30 minutes each night on the weekend. This results in a permanent sleep debt.
Although nearly 54% of people try to catch up on lost sleep, they still feel they are sleep-deprived. As a result, one in three French people, or 28%, suffer from daytime sleepiness. This is a contributing factor to the increased risk of road accidents, workplace accidents, and domestic problems.
