Is it safe to eat that leftover chicken?

When in Doubt, Throw It Out

Discard the chicken if:

  • It was left out for more than 2 hours (or 1 hour in hot conditions)

  • It sat in warm or humid environments

  • You’re unsure how long it was left out

  • It smells bad, feels slimy, or looks unusual

Food poisoning is never worth the risk.

In Summary

  • Cooked chicken left at room temperature too long can be dangerous.

  • Poultry carries a higher risk due to bacteria and toxin production.

  • Refrigerate leftovers promptly and consume them within a few days.

  • When unsure, throw it away — prevention is always better than cure.
