How to preserve parsley and keep it fresh for a year: the chefs' method

The chefs’ method for keeping parsley fresh

In professional kitchens, parsley isn’t treated like a vegetable — it’s treated like a bouquet of flowers. And that’s the secret.

This method may seem simple, but every step matters.

Step 1: Clean it properly

Start by washing the parsley thoroughly in cold water to remove soil, sand, and any residue. Swirl it gently rather than crushing it.

Step 2: Sort and dry

Remove any yellowed, bruised, or damaged leaves. These spoil faster and can affect the rest of the bunch.
Then dry the parsley carefully using absorbent paper or a clean kitchen towel. It should be dry, but not crushed.

Step 3: The “bouquet” technique

Place the stems upright in a glass jar half-filled with fresh water, just like flowers in a vase. Glass is ideal because it’s neutral and hygienic.
