Snoring is one of those nighttime problems that seems simple but is actually influenced by many factors: anatomy, breathing habits, sleep depth, allergies, weight, alcohol consumption, and, above all, sleeping position. A common question is whether sleeping on your right side improves or worsens snoring. The answer isn't a simple yes or no, but science offers some insights.

Your sleeping position influences how gravity affects these tissues. This is why sleeping on your back is often associated with louder and more frequent snoring: gravity pulls the tongue and soft palate backward, narrowing the airways. Generally, sleeping on your side promotes better airway opening.
But not all side sleeping positions are created equal.
